Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Alexander Marks, Communications Director for the Nevada State Education Association. A school union, the NSEA is the largest education association in the state of Nevada, and is an affiliate of the National Education Association. Using a PowerPoint, Alex will present background information and research reports on a variety of issues affecting education in Nevada.

In 2008 Alex earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude, in History, Government, and Philosophy from Daemen College in Amherst, New York. Then in 2011 he was awarded a Juris Doctor from Massachusetts School of Law in Andover, Massachusetts.

From 2012 to 2014, Alex served as Director of Government Affairs & In-House Counsel with the Arizona Students' Association in Phoenix. Then he became a Gaming Law and Regulatory Compliance Analyst at The Law Offices of John Maloney in Las Vegas. After a year with DSP, LLC, another Las Vegas firm, Alex served for three years with the Nevada State Legislature in Carson City, first as In House Counsel, then as Senate Sergeant at Arms. He has now been been with the Nevada State Education Assn in Las Vegas for almost three years, and has volunteered his services with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

In 2016 Alex ran against Republican incumbent Scott Hammond for Senate District 18. On the issue of education he wrote, "I am a proud product of the Clark County School District. The teachers and professors I had at Elaine Wynn Elementary, Kenny C. Guinn Junior High School, and Durango High School inspired me to keep pushing forward for the ideas I believe in so that I could make an impact throughout my community."

Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, March 1st, and will be held online via Zoom teleconference due to masking and social distancing restrictions at in-person venues. Those wishing to be on distribution for these Zoom links should email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
